Quick And Easy Home Cleaning Steps

Clean your entire home, don’t just clean one room
If you can clean your entire home in one go, then do it. However, if you don’t have time every day to do all tasks in all rooms, then pick a set of tasks per day for all rooms.

Instead of cleaning everything in your kitchen or bathroom, pick something like vacuuming and mopping and do every room. The advantage of this is that your mind is set on that specific task, the tools will be all the same, and it will go a lot faster.

If you’re trying to clean everything in a single room every day, you have to switch your mind to each task at hand, find the different tools and cleaning supplies needed, and ultimately it will take you longer.

Keep all your cleaning tools together

Take some time to look at your home and what tools and cleaning supplies you need. Try to combine with multipurpose cleaning supplies and tools that can function for multiple purposes.

An example of a multipurpose tool is a floor mop that has a glass cleaning attachment. The mop might even have a wall cleaning attachment for days when you’re getting excited about cleaning.

Once you get the minimum amounts of supplies, put them all together. Use a caddy, or use a bucket. Whatever is easiest for you, just make sure they’re all together, so you don’t have to go hunting for them when you want to clean.

Clean up general clutter in your home

Take a look at your home and see if there are clothes on the floor that need to be put away or cleaned. Are there any food items left on the bench? Is there general kid’s stuff lying all around the house? Take 10 minutes to move around your home and put things away.

If your kids are around, make them put their stuff away themselves.

Cleaning up general clutter and mess is a quick and easy way to make your home easier to clean and even look better with minimal effort. You don’t want to be picking things up and moving them when trying to clean the floor.

Dust then vacuum your home

Make sure you dust before vacuuming. Focus on the tops of shelves, under tables, chairs, or any other furniture. Use a cloth on the end of your mop or buy a specific dusting attachment.

Once you’ve completed dusting, then vacuum. If you don’t vacuum after dusting, you’re just moving dust from furniture to the floor to be tracked around your house.

Wipe mirror and all glass surfaces

Using a microfiber cloth or your new glass cleaning attachment, wipe down all mirrors and glass surfaces. Depending on your cloth, you may want to go over everything with a wet cloth and then quickly use a dry cloth, so you don’t have watermarks on everything.
Disinfect all hard surface areas
Spray with disinfecting solution and wipe down with clean cloths all of the hard surfaces in your home. Make sure you’re changing your cloth between rooms or after filthy areas. You don’t want to be transferring the filth you just wiped off into a new location.

Whether you use a home solution or buy something like the Lysol multipurpose spray, that’s up to you.

Focus on your tubs, sinks, showers, and toilets

Spray a disinfecting solution such as Lysol into all your sinks, showers, and even toilets. Let it sit for 10 minutes so that it has time to kill all germs and other nasty things. Then, go back, spray again to ensure it hasn’t dried, and then wipe or scrub everything down.

If you have an adjustable and detachable mop, you may even be able to use that in your showers and bathtubs to scrub away all the grime.

Vacuum first, then mop

Before you try mopping your floor, make sure you’ve run the vacuum over the area. There’s nothing worse than mopping a floor with hair, dust, and other particles just being pushed around and made wet.

Make sure if you have a large home and big area to mop that you’re either cleaning the mop often or change the cleaning pad between rooms or even multiple times in a large room. Don’t transfer filth to other areas by not washing or changing your mop.
Just keep moving!
You don’t need to do everything perfectly, things will get dirty again, and you’re going to be cleaning again. Do your best in each area, and if anything gets missed, then you’ll be back another day to get it.

If you get stuck focussing on getting into every nook and cranny every time, then you’re going to be slowed right now and not finish your cleaning.

Keep your cleaning tools clean

Not everybody thinks about their cleaning tools, but those tools come into contact with all the dirt in your home and may never get cleaned.

Rinse off your cleaning tools, scrub them down if needed, give them a soak. Wash your clothes and mop pads in the washing machine rather than just rinsing them off and letting them dry.

Make sure your tools are clean so that your home is clean.

Make cleaning a group task

Don’t be the only person cleaning. Make it a group task, whether that’s your kids, roommates, or partner, get everyone involved. Everybody made the mess, and everybody can clean the mess.

Don’t spring the cleaning on people. Instead, make it a scheduled task that everybody knows about in advance, so there are no complaints or excuses that now isn’t a good time.
